    Welcome to ENVTECSOC! --Environment Technology and Society

     ENVTECSOC was established at the American Sociological Assoc
               meetings in Los Angeles, August 1944
        by the Environment and Technology Section of the ASA.

     ENVTECSOC is an UNMODERATED mailserver: that means that any
message sent to the list will automatically be sent to all current
members of the list.  Many subscribers will simply take themselves
off the list if much garbage comes across it, and our purpose will
be defeated.  Others will wish to read and participate in certain
parts of the discussions.  For these reasons, several guidelines
MUST be strictly observed if this effort is going to be
successful:

     1. Do not post ANYTHING that is of interest to only a few
individuals whom you could e-mail directly.
     2. ALWAYS use an explicit, informative SUBJECT LINE
     3. NEVER engage in personal attacks on the list.  If you
must do this, send the mail directly to the other person.
     4. DO post items of broad interest to subscribers.
Please do respect all users who do not want their mailboxes
cluttered.
     5. Do not "flame" on the list.

The archives could also include papers and data sets which would be
accessable to anyone with gopher, ftp or web capabilities.
